Building a sustainable future begins with awareness and grows through action. WWF-Hong Kong believes that education creates a foundation for lasting environmental change – by engaging schools and communities, we aim to nurture informed and empowered generations of all ages that understand the importance in protectingthe natural world and the roles they may play in conserving our planet.

Our education programmes connect people with nature through immersive, hands-on experiences that highlight how everyday choices affect the Earth’s future in a myriad of ways. From youth leadership initiatives and teacher and parent training to community outreach and citizen science, we help people translate knowledge into action. Working together, we can inspire lifelong advocates for the environment, nurturing future change-makers who will safeguard a sustainable, thriving planet.

Flow with Nature: Building a Thriving Flow Community

Thanks to the generous support of The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, this year WWF-Hong Kong launched the “Flow with Nature: Building a Thriving Flow Community” project, a transformative education initiative that seeks to improve mental wellbeing through connections with nature. Demonstrating a shared vision to promote holistic wellbeing and social change, this three-part project aims to inspire individuals of all ages to rediscover their bond with the natural world and extend that positive influence to their communities.

Flow Influencers: Youth Empowerment

During the Flow Influencer Programme, 40 young adults aged 18 to 35 embarked on a six-month experiential learning journey. By immersing themselves in Hong Kong’s diverse landscapes, from coastal waters to wetlands to remote villages, they learned how the environment supports emotional balance and mental resilience.

The participants then became co-creators of change: Drawing on their personal journeys, they designed and implemented community activities to promote connection with nature. Their hard work reflected their inherent power and potential to spark change across wider communities.

Flow Facilitators: Capacity Building

The Flow Facilitator Programme empowered over 100 teachers, youth workers and parents to become catalysts for long-term impact. During the programme’s ten workshops, participants learned practical ways to embed nature-based learning and emotional wellness into their teaching and mentoring work. By helping these individuals become multipliers, we are cultivating a growing and self-sustaining network that espouses the Flow with Nature philosophy, ensuring its principles will carry over to the next generations.

Flow Explorers: Community Inspiration

Hundreds of children, youths and adults came together for the Flow Explorer Programme, enjoying fun, hands-on nature play. Across the programme’s 40 tours, participants experienced moments of joy, curiosity and reflection, enhancing awareness of how their daily life relates to the environment, improving their wellbeing and strengthening their sense of being connected to nature. Flow Explorer is inspiring a wide reconnection to the local environment, encouraging the community to embrace nature as an essential source of inspiration.

These three interconnected programmes have formed a comprehensive framework for change. By combining personal transformation, capacity building and community outreach, Flow with Nature is an excellent example of how cross-sector collaboration can advance human wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

Inspiring Youth to Lead Sustainable Lifestyles

The “24/7 Sustainable Living Project – Learning Experience and Action”, a joint initiative between Covestro and WWF-Hong Kong, empowered Hong Kong’s younger generation to embrace a sustainable, low-carbon lifestyles. Aiming to promote environmental awareness, resource conservation and responsible consumption to the younger generation, the project engaged over 200 students in Primary 3 to Primary 6 from two local schools.

Combining interactive learning, self-reflection and hands-on activities, the programme helped students understand the importance of sustainability in everyday life. The journey began with a sustainable living talk, where students explored key environmental issues and learned practical sustainability tips they could immediately implement.

Next, two customised challenges were developed for each school to put learning into action. In one challenge, students completed a four-week self-evaluation checklist to assess their personal lifestyle choices, and then encouraged their families and friends to adopt greener behaviours. In the other, students worked collaboratively on group-based projects like creating educational videos and organising recycling booths, showcasing their creativity and leadership while advocating for sustainable living in their school and community.

Participants who demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and innovation were rewarded with a learning tour of WWF-Hong Kong’s Island House Conservation Studies Centre, deepening their connection with nature and reinforcing the value of responsible choices in daily life.
